After a car accident, one of the biggest sources of stress is dealing with your insurance company. The good news is you don't have to navigate the process alone. At Chad's Collision Center, we work with customers and insurance providers every day to help make the repair process as smooth as possible.
Here are answers to some of the most common insurance questions we receive.
Do I have to use the body shop my insurance company recommends?
No. Louisiana drivers have the right to choose the collision repair facility they trust. While your insurance company may suggest a preferred shop, the final decision is always yours.
Will Chad's Collision Center work with my insurance company?
Yes. We work with all major insurance carriers and communicate directly with adjusters throughout the repair process to help ensure repairs are completed correctly and efficiently.
What if the insurance estimate is lower than the actual repair cost?
This happens more often than people realize. Once repairs begin, hidden damage may be discovered that wasn't visible during the initial estimate. We document the additional damage and submit a supplemental estimate to the insurance company for approval before repairs continue.
What is my deductible?
Your deductible is the amount you're responsible for paying before your insurance coverage applies. The deductible amount is determined by your insurance policy—not your repair shop.
Can I get a rental vehicle while my car is being repaired?
If your insurance policy includes rental reimbursement coverage, your insurance company may pay for a rental vehicle while repairs are underway. If you're unsure about your coverage, we can help you understand your options.
How long does the insurance approval process take?
Simple claims may be approved within a day or two, while more complex claims can take longer. Factors such as accident severity, supplemental repairs, and parts availability all affect the timeline.
What happens if my vehicle is declared a total loss?
If repair costs exceed the value of the vehicle as determined by your insurance company, it may be declared a total loss. In that case, the insurance company typically offers a settlement based on the vehicle's market value.
Will filing a claim increase my insurance rates?
Rate increases depend on your insurance company, your policy, and who was determined to be at fault. Your collision repair facility does not determine insurance premiums or policy changes.
Should I wait to repair my vehicle?
Waiting can allow hidden damage to worsen, especially if structural components, suspension parts, or safety systems were affected. It's always best to have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible after an accident.
